Dharan

Dharan is a beautiful multiethnic and multicultural city located right at the foot of hills in the eastern region of Nepal in Sunsari district. It is located at the altitude of about 1150ft from sea level and the climate is moderate. Temperature can reach up to 35 degrees in summer while it can go down to about 10 degree Celsius in winter. It is about 450km far from capital city Kathmandu and can be reached by driving for around 13 hours. One can directly land in Biratnagar via 45 minutes of flight and then drive for 1 hour to reach Dharan. It is a developing tourism city and can be considered as the transit point to the eastern hilly area of Nepal.

Places to visit in Dharan:-

Pindeshwor Temple:

This temple is right at the bottom of Vijayapur Hill. It is at 15 minute walk east from Bhanu Chowk, the main square of Dharan. In front of the temple is a pool with a small statue at its center.The main temple doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it’s quite nice from inside.

Dantakali Temple:

Dantakali temple is situated in the middle of the beautiful Vijayapur hill which is at about 30 minutes’ walk from the Bhanu Chowk. The temple is famous among the Hindus as the place where the sacred teeth of the goddess Satidevi lie. Thousands of devotees visit temple. The first nine days of Dashain see great crowds offering worship and sacrifice of goats, other animals and birds. The place is very good for sightseeing too.

Budhasubba Temple:

Budhasubba is a famous religious shrine of the Kirat people which is located at Bijayapur of Dharan. It is believed to fulfil wishes and bring good luck to the people who visit there. The bamboos without the top end here are the main attractions. A lot of lovers and couples visit the temple every year to write their names in those bamboos with the belief that their relationship will be successful.

Baraaah Kshetra:

Baraah Kshetra is situated 20Km west from Dharan near Sapta Koshi River. The temple of lord Vishnu is situated there. There is a stone in front of temple that is lifted to know whether a person is sinless or sinful. Makar Sankranti is the main festival which is celebrated by the people in this sacred place on January.

Bhedetar:

Dharan is also a gateway to several natural tourist attractions. Bhedetar (Charles view Point) which is the nearest major destination, is about half hour’s drive through zigzag hilly road. There’s Charles tower on the peak, from where tourists can have a panoramic view of the hills, waterfalls, and forests. On a clear day during autumn, one can see far down the terai, and high into the east Himalayan range.

Similarly Dharan is a gateway to beautiful tourist attractions in eastern hilly region such as Makalu-Varun national park, Arun valley, Sabha Lake, Hyatrung fall, Gupha Lake and TInjure-Milke rhododendron protection area.

Ilam

Ilam is a beautiful hill station in eastern hilly region of Nepal. It is one of the major place for tea-production in Nepal. As it is situated in hilly area, the climate cold almost all over the year except mild warm in summer. Ilam is famous for its natural beauty and beautiful tea gardens. Many tourists come to Ilam for sightseeing of the natural beauty.

Places to visit in Ilam:-

Antudaada:

Antudaada is one of the best places to visit in Ilam to view the spectacular sight of sunrise, sunset and the Himalayas. It is situated at about 2300m above the sea level. Tourists can enjoy the beautiful view of the Terai flatlands, terraced hills of cash crops, tea gardens and thick pine forests on a bright and clear day. About three hour drive from Ilam bazaar takes tourists to Antudaada where they can stay at the local homes that offer home-stay facilities in the area.

Kanyam and Fikkal:

Kanyam and Fikkal are the places in Ilam famous for their large tea estates. These places are about 45km far from the Ilam bazaar. These tea estates are famous for sightseeing, photography and picnic.

Mai Pokhari:

Ilam also hosts some famous pilgrimage sites. Mai pokhari is the lake surrounded by thick forest which includes various species of flora and fauna. Mai pokhari can be reached in half hours’ drive from Ilam bazaar. Every year, a fair is held here around Dashain festival for worshipping goddess Bhagawati.

Pathivara Temple:

The Pathivara Devi temple in Ilam is believed the younger sister of Pathivara Devi in Taplejung. In Maibeni, temple of lord Shiva is located at the meeting point of Mai River and Jogma River. Lot of people visit the temple in January on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.
